China: Coal imports continue to decline in Aug’25

China imported 42.74 mnt of coal and lignite in Aug’25, down 6.8% y-o-y, according to the General Administration of Customs of the People’s Republic of China. In Jan-Aug’25, total imports stood at 299.94 mnt, reflecting a sharp 12.2% y-o-y decline. The continued downtrend highlights China’s increasing reliance on domestic coal output while reducing dependence on overseas supplies.
