China: Billet imports rise to 1.17 mn t in Jun’21

China’s billet imports rose to 1.17 mn t in Jun’21 compared with 1.03 mn t in May, according to recent data released by customs.
However, billet import volumes fell marginally by 6% y-o-y to 4.9 mn t in Jan-Jun’21 as against 5.27 mn t in H1 CY’20, down 6.35% y-o-y, as per data collated by SteelMint.
Steel production cuts in H2 CY’21 are likely to keep Chinese billet imports on the higher side.
