China’s largest steelmaker Baosteel witnessed a sharp decline of 43.6% in its net profit RMB 1.53 billion during the first quarter of FY’20. The drop in profit is attributed to extended Spring Festival holidays and rapid spread of coronavirus pandemic in China. The company expected steel sheet demand to drop further in the second quarter on low utilization rates at downstream sectors as well as high inventory levels.
