China banning Australian coal imports to negatively impact prices

Chinese utilities seem to be verbally notified by the government to stop imports of Australian thermal and coking coal as a part of its long-term environment protection plan. The growing political tension between the two countries is also cited as one of the major reasons for the probable ban. China accounted for 27% of Australia’s coal (both coking & thermal) exports in CY20.
