China approves 24 coal-fired power projects in H1 2021

In an attempt to achieve its 2030 climate targets, the Chinese provincial government has lowered construction of coal-fired projects in H1 2021 by 79% y-o-y at 5.2GW to 24 projects. Of the total approved projects, 3.3 GW is from three major coal-fired power stations in the Anhui province, and coal-dependent northern province of Shaanxi. During CY’21, the government also did not back any coal power projects outside the country.
