India: TMT Gauge Difference up by INR 700-800/MT in Chhattisgarh

Chhattisgarh Steel Re-rolling Mill Association has changed the basic gauge size from 20 mm to 28 mm. It has increased TMT gauge difference price by INR 700-800/MT w.e.f 16 Apr, 2014.

Chhattisgarh has an installed capacity of 4 MnT pa Re-bar that’s share of 13-14% in all India Re-bar installed capacity. Chhattisgarh new policy is similar to Maharashtra (installed capacity of 4.2 MnT), the neighboring state that competes with C.G.

In 2012, CG TMT manufacturers open 12 mm TMT price as basic then they had replaced 12 mm to 20 mm in Dec’13. Now, again they replaced 20 mm to 28 mm which led to increase the TMT gauge difference by INR 700-800/MT for 12 mm & 20 mm sizes.

“The new gauge difference is being done considering low price of 20 mm and the increasing cost of operation”, said President of CG Steel Re-rolling Mill Association.

A TMT trader based at Raipur said, “Association has taken decision considering high prices and upward sentiments. As any hike in prices is not accepted in down sentiments.”
