With falling sponge prices across India, manufacturers are trying to look for cheaper sources of iron ore from private mines based in Odisha.
“NMDC's iron ore is expensive at the moment, it costs us around 8,900-9,100/t landed to our plant based in Raipur for 63% Fe, where as same grade from Odisha costs us around Rs 8,800-9,900/t which has a better yield.” said Mr Manoj Agarwal, a sponge manufacturer based in Raipur (Chattisgarh).
It is also reported that NMDC might consider price cut looking at less demand from manufacturers and looking at falling iron ore prices in international market.
