Production from induction furnace units located at the OP Jindal Industrial Park at Punjipathra in Raigarh (central India) has been disturbed due to the power cut by Jindal – the sole supplier of power to industries. Sources confirmed that the power cut has started affecting operations at four-five plants that have had to reduce heats for an indefinite period. There are about 35-40 furnaces at the Punjipathra industrial area with average production of about 4,000 t ingot/billet per day. Disruption in power supply may result in hike in ingot/billet prices and pile up selling pressure on sponge manufacturers in the region.
