The 5th largest iron ore exporter Canada has exported 2.98 MnT iron ore in Dec16 as per trade statistics released by Canadian Customs.
Iron ore export has registered a decrease of 25% M-o-M as it was around 3.97 MnT in Nov’16. Similarly country’s iron ore exports have decreased marginally by 6% Y-o-Y compared with the month of Dec’15.
In 2016, the country exported 41.06 MnT iron ore, up by 10% as the export was 37.17 MnT last year.
In Dec’16, the agglomerated iron ore (pellets and concentrate) exports were registered at 1.21 MnT down 25%, considerably lower compared to Nov’16 which was at 1.62 MnT, however, were up by 19% Y-o-Y as it was 1.01 MnT in Dec’15.
The non-agglomerated iron ore (lumps & fines) exports were registered at 1.78 MnT in Dec’16, considerably down by 24% as it was 2.35 MnT in Nov’16. Compared with Dec’15 non-agglomerated iron ore exports of 1.82 MnT, this month, it stood at 1.78 MnT which was lower 18%.
1. France was the largest iron ore importer for the month at 0.54 MnT iron ore jumping 68.5% in Dec’16 against 0.32 MnT in Nov’16. The nation imported 0.34 MnT iron ore in Dec’15.
2. China was the second largest importer with the same quantity of 0.49 MnT iron ore in Dec’16 with no change from Nov’16 M-o-M. The nation had imported 0.64 MnT iron ore in the month of Dec’15.
3. Japan turned out to be the third largest iron ore importer at 0.48 MnT for the month of Dec’16, down 25.5% as it was 0.65 MnT in Nov’16. The nation had imported 0.52 MnT iron ore in Dec’15.
