Canada Iron Ore Export Down 6% in Mar’17

he 5th largest iron ore exporter Canada has exported 2.79 MnT iron ore in Mar’17 as per trade statistics released by Canadian Customs.

Iron ore export has registered a decrease of 6% M-o-M as it was around 2.97 MnT in Feb’17. Similarly country’s iron ore exports have decreased by 12% Y-o-Y compared with the month of Mar’16 where it was 3.18 MnT then.

In first quarter of 2017, the country exported 8.95 MnT iron ore with no change over the export of 8.97 MnT last year for the same period.Canada Iron Ore Export, Canada, Iron Ore, ExportIn Mar’17, the agglomerated iron ore (pellets and concentrate) exports were registered at 1.36 MnT up 3%, compared to Feb’17 which was at 1.32 MnT, however, were down by 4% Y-o-Y as it was 1.41 MnT in Mar’16.

The non-agglomerated iron ore (lumps & fines) exports were registered at 1.43 MnT in Mar’17, down M-o-M by 13% as it was 1.65 MnT in Feb’17. It was down Y-o-Y as well by 19% at it were 1.77 MnT in Mar’16.

  1. Japan was the largest iron ore importer for the month with 0.50 MnT iron ore up 9% in Mar’17 against 0.46 MnT in Feb’17. The nation imported 0.32 MnT iron ore in Mar’16.
  2. Netherlands was the second largest importer with the quantity of 0.46 MnT iron ore in Mar’17 up by 190% M-o-M against 0.16 MnT in Feb’17. The nation had imported 0.55 MnT iron ore in the month of Mar’16.
  3. China turned out to be the third largest iron ore importer at 0.35 MnT for the month of Mat’17, up 130% as it was 0.15 MnT in Feb’17. The nation had imported 0.51 MnT iron ore in Mar’16.
