Brazilian Iron Ore Export Down by 15% in Oct’16

Recent trade statistics released by Brazil Customs show that Brazil has exported around 30.0 MnT iron ore in Oct’16. Iron ore exports decreased by 15% in Oct’16 against 35.3 MnT in Sept’16.

Brazilian iron ore export volumes also decreased by 12% Y-o-Y. In the first 10 months of 2016, the country exported 307.2 MnT iron ore, up by 2.6% as it was 299.2 MnT during the same period in 2015.

The average export price for Brazilian iron ore in Oct’16 was around USD 37/MT, FoB Brazil, down by USD 3.2/MT from Sept’16 as it was USD 40.2/MT, FoB Brazil. However, on Y-o-Y basis, average export prices rose by USD 4.7/MT against USD 33.2/MT, FoB Brazil in Oct’15.brazil-average-prices-in-oct16According to data provided by Inchcape Shipping Services, Brazil, – the country exported 31.1 MnT iron ore via sea route. Vale, the world’s largest iron ore producer exports around 85% of iron ore via sea route. In Oct’16, the miners exported 26.81 MnT iron ore via sea route, CSN – 2.39 MnT, Anglo American – 1.39 MnT and Trafigura – 0.52 MnT.

China, the largest iron ore importer of Brazilian iron ore imported around 55% of total Brazilian exports in Oct’16, whereas Netherlands contributed 7.7%, Japan 7.6%, and Singapore contributed 5% via sea route.
