World’s largest iron ore miner- Vale on 29th Nov’19 announced that it will resume operations at Viga concentration of Ferrous Resources do Brasil in 24 hours. The announcement came after the miner received operational permits from the municipality of Jeceaba with expected production of around 330,000 MT iron ore per month.
However, the resumption at the mine does not change the miner’s iron ore and pellets sales guidance of 307 – 312 MnT in 2019, 83-88 MnT in Q4 CY19 and 70-75 MnT in Q1CY20.
Vale on 15th Aug’19 had reported temporary operations halt at its Viga concentration plant, which is part of newly acquired Ferous Resources do Brasil (acquired on 1st Aug’19), due to permit issues. The operation halt was owing to inconsistency in documents related to the operation permit from the municipality of Jeceaba.
Last week, Vale has completed decommissioning at one of the nine upstream tailing dams. The de characterization at 8B dam located at Águas Claras mine, in Nova Lima began in May 17 and does not offer any risk of breach anymore. On similar grounds, Vale is to decommission all such similar upstream dams in next three years.
