Brazil: Manganese Ore Exports Rises Significantly in Mar’18 on Soaring Chinese Demand

According to the Brazilian customs, the country has witnessed a massive rise of 80% M-o-M in its Manganese Ore exports.

Brazilian Manganese Ore export in Mar’18 was at 0.18 MnT against 0.1 MnT in Feb’18. Moreover, on yearly basis, Brazilian Manganese Ore exports reflected a substantial increase of 50% as it was 0.12 MnT in Mar’18.

China’s Appetite for Brazilian Manganese Ore

China remains the largest exporter of Brazilian Manganese Ore in Mar’18 at 0.12 MnT witnessing a whopping rise of 500% M-o-M against 0.02 MnT in Feb’18. Uruguay on the other hand witness a substantial fall of 50% M-o-M, importing only 0.04 MnT in Mar’18 against 0.08 MnT in Feb’18.

An increase in Chinese Manganese Ore imports can be attributed to low stock levels at its ports coupled with low manganese content in Chinese ores. Despite the weakening manganese alloy market in China, the country witnessed an increased dependency on imports creating a hike in global Manganese Ore prices.
