Recent trade statistics released by Brazil Customs show that the country has exported around 33.79 MnT iron ore in Jun’17.
Brazil iron ore export have seen a marginal increase of 4% for the first half the year compared to a year ago and it stood at 184 MnT against 177.3 MnT between Jan’16 To Jun’16. The exports country has increased Q-o-Q as well by 2% where it was 93 MnT in Q2 over 91 MnT in Q1 in CY17.
The exports have gone up by 16% Y-o-Y for the month of June which were at 29.02 MnT in Jun’16. However the iron ore exports from Brazil were down by 4% compared to the quantity of 35.11 MnT in May’17.
Monthly average iron ore export price falls further by 14%
The average export price for Brazilian iron ore continued to fall in Jun’17 and was around USD 40.4/MT, FoB Brazil, down by USD 7/MT from May’17 as it was USD 47/MT, FoB Brazil. However, on Y-o-Y basis, average export prices rose by USD 3/MT against USD 37.3/MT, FoB Brazil in Jun’16.
Vale accounted for 85% share in Brazilian iron ore exports in Jun’17
According to data provided by Inchcape Shipping Services, Brazil, – the country exported 33.79 MnT iron ore via sea route. Vale, the world’s largest iron ore producer exported around 85% of iron ore via sea route of the total exports. In Jun’17, the miner exported 28.84 MnT iron ore via sea route, CSN – 2.51 MnT, Anglo American – 1.61 MnT and Trafiguara – 0.83 MnT.

China, the largest iron ore importer of Brazilian iron ore imported around 64% of total Brazilian iron ore exports in Jun’17 via sea route, followed by Japan, Netherlands and Oman.
Ponta Da Madeira accounted for 43% share in Jun’17 Brazil iron ore exports – 14.61 MnT iron ore was exported from Brazil’s Ponta Da Madeira. Other major ports for Brazilian iron ore export were Tubarao port and Guaiba port.
