Brazil: Iron Ore Exports Down 7% in Jan’18

World’s second largest exporter of iron ore – Brazil has recorded exports of 30.44 MnT in Jan’18. The exports witnessed a marginal decline of 7% M-o-M in Jan’18 as against 32.77 MnT in Dec’17.

However, on yearly basis, iron ore exports from Brazil recorded an increase of 5% in Jan’18 as compared to Jan’17 which stood at 28.92 MnT.

The average price of the ore edged up to USD 50.3/MT, FoB in Jan’18 compared to USD 46.7/MT in Dec’17. Seaborne iron ore prices in China remained on the higher side in Jan’18 amid restocking activities by steel mills before Lunar New Year holidays.

However, the Y-o-Y average price for Jan’18 witnessed a decline of 10% as against USD 56/MT in Jan’17.
