Around a month later, Brahmani River Pellets Limited (BRPL) – a Stemcor project is anticipated to commence its commercial operations of 4.5 million ton per annum (mtpa) Iron ore Pellet operations, in the state of Odisha.
A senior official of the company told SteelMint that German technology which results in cost saving and better quality product, would be used for Pellet making.
High grade Pellet are to be produced by beneficiating low grade iron ore fines (beneficiation plant in Barbil connected by a 220 km underground slurry pipeline to its Pellet plant in Jajpur).
According to the official, “We will be focusing to sell our raw material to Odisha based customers.
No doubt, iron ore availability looks to improve in the months ahead, but it would not be able to cater to the 5 lac ton p.a requirement of the state based industries as iron ore also has to be supplied to states such as Chhattisgarh, Jharkhand and West Bengal.
Though, exports will also be an option but realizations might not be high.
By the time we start offering Pellets, I feel domestic prices would be at lower levels as compared to current quotes.
Imports to India might come down as it is expensive ($175/MT CFR) in comparison to offers being made for domestic material”.
