Billet prices in eastern region (Chhattisgarh, Bengal & Odisha) of India, which had corrected over INR 1,200-1,500/MT in last few weeks on sluggish demand, have showed some signs of recovery.

Trades sources have reported that trade activities from eastern India has increased on rising price difference from North. Last trade deals of commercial Billet from Bhillai (Chhattisgarh) are heard to be concluded at around INR 30,500-30,700/MT with additional freight cost of INR 2,700/MT and CST of 1%.
Landed cost of Billet from Chhattisgarh & West Bengal to Punjab would be around INR 34,000/MT & 34,500/MT respectively against local price of INR 35,500/MT.
On the similar lines, another manufacturer located in Raigarh (Chhattisgarh) mentioned that demand for Billet/Ingot from Uttar Pradesh markets like Kanpur & Gaziabad has increased owing to power crisis in the state.
Sponge Iron Prices in Durgapur up by INR 500/MT
Rising Billet demand & prices have supported Sponge iron prices in West Bengal & Chhattisgarh, one of the largest Sponge producing states in the country. Sponge iron prices, which corrected over INR 1,500/MT (M-o-M), have also shown strength and prices (Pellet Sponge) have moved up to INR 19,000/MT in West Bengal and INR 19,800-20,000/MT in Raipur (Chhattisgarh).
