Iron ore major BHP has inked a pact with leading Chinese steel producer HBIS Group to invest $15 million over 3 years to jointly study and explore emissions reduction technologies. The two companies intend to collaborate on hydrogen-based DR technology, recycling of steel-making slag and the role of iron ore lumps in reducing emissions from steel-making. BHP pledged $400 million for its ‘Climate Investment Program’ in 2019 to support research on slashing scope 1, 2 and 3 greenhouse emissions.
