It is learned that the BHP Billiton increased their
quotations slightly by USD0.2/dmtu for manganese ore for Chinese buyers in
February. The price of Australian manganese ore lump 45.5-46% increases to
USD5.4/dmtu in February; the price is at USD4.95/dmtu for Australian manganese
ore chip 48% in February; the price of South African semi-carbonaceous ore 38%
is at USD4.9/dmtu in February.
Currently, spot supply keeps tight in Chinese ports and prices keep inching up. Traders
hold offers firm considering the smooth transaction and short of supply. The
price is at RMB43.5-44/dmtu for Australian manganese ore lump 46% and
RMB41.5-42/dmtu for Australian manganese ore fines 48%, respectively. The
price increases to RMB39.5-40/dmtu for South African semi-carbonated manganese
ore 38%. The spot prices are at least RMB2-3/dmtu higher than the foreign
offers, so the price increase of BHP Billiton has not impacted greatly on the
current market yet. Moreover, the supply volume has not increased compared
with that of the past months, so the tight condition in Chinese manganese ore
market will continue in a short time.
