Bangladesh, one of the world’s largest ship recycler, grabbed the top position of ship breaking scrap during Jan to Nov 2018 & imported about 177 of total number of ships, as per data maintained by SteelMint.
According to the released data by GMS, it is noted that the Bangladesh has imported at about 2,207,850 LDT ship breaking scrap (177 ships), which includes dry as well wet containers in Jan-Nov’18.
With the development stage of ship breaking market, other countries are also inline like India at 2,126,411 LDT (238 Ships) & Pakistan at 1,202,286 LDT (75 Ships).
Further in Nov’18, on improved demand of steel scrap globally, the total number of ship demolition in the Bangladesh Chittagong port was reported at 21 ships. Meanwhile a month ago (Oct’18) it was stood at about 18 number of ships.
In line in Nov’18, India Imported 19 ships for demolition in the Alang port (Western region) as against 17 number of ships a month ago and India was marked as the largest ship breaker during Jan-Oct’18 period. Furthermore Pakistan stood 3rd in the ship recycling in Gadani port with 6 number of ships in Nov’18.
The imported scrap market in Bangladesh remain more active in recent trades as compared with other subcontinental markets and latest offers for containerized Shredded 211 scrap reported in the range USD 340-350/MT, HMS 1 at around USD 330/MT and P&S assessed at around USD 345/MT, CFR Chittagong, Bangladesh.
