Baltic Dry Index hits 1-week low amid seasonal slowdown, softening demand

The Baltic Dry Index declined by 1.5% (32 points) d-o-d to 2,063 points on 18 Feb’26, driven by a post-Lunar New Year slowdown in Chinese cargo activity, softer iron ore shipments, and easing Capesize charter rates, which outweighed marginal strength in the Panamax segment.

  • Capesize: BCI fell 2.5% (79 points) to 3,115.
  • Panamax: BPI rose 0.22% (4 points) to 1,796.
  • Supramax: BSI declined 1.17% (14 points) to 1,180.
