Baltic dry index hits 6-month low as Capesize records sharp correction

The Baltic Dry Index dropped by 2.2% (34 points) d-o-d to 1,532 on 15 Jan’26. The drop reflects pressure on iron ore trades, increased vessel availability, fixtures at lower levels, falling FFAs which continues to offset gains of smaller segments.

  • Capesize: BCI decreased 6.3% (147 points) to 2,175.
  • Panamax: BPI increased 4.3% (57 points) to 1,398.
  • Supramax: BSI up 1.05% (10 points) to 963.
