Baltic Dry Index drops to 3-week low on war tensions

The Baltic Dry Index fell by 6% (128 points) d-o-d to a three-week low of 2,010 on 6 Mar’26, pressured by heightened Middle East geopolitical tensions, cautious chartering activity, softer iron ore cargo enquiries, and rising vessel availability in key basins.

  • Capesize: BCI declined by 10.8% (320 points) to 2,631.
  • Panamax: BPI fell 1.8% (35 points) to 1,962.
  • Supramax: BSI dropped 0.4% (6 points) to 1,386.
