Baltic dry index declines on soft demand, tonnage oversupply

The Baltic Dry Index declined by 0.97% (19 points) d-o-d to 1,936 points on 5 Feb’26. Cumulative pressure from softer iron ore and coal demand, cautious chartering ahead of seasonal holidays, and temporary oversupply of tonnage kept the index under pressure.

  • Capesize: BCI down by 1.44% (43 points) to 2,951.
  • Panamax: BPI dipped by 1.54% (26 points) to 1,659.
  • Supramax: BSI rose by 0.92% (10 points) to 1,102.
