Bahrain: Iron ore Imports Increased Sharply; Pellet Exports Decline In Aug’18

In Aug’18, Bahrain iron ore imports increased by 55% to 0.9 MnT as against 0.58 MnT a month ago. However, on yearly basis, imports increased to nearly three folds as against 0.32 MnT in Aug’17.

For the duration Jan-Aug’18, the total imports by the country recorded at 4.91 MnT, up 32% compared to 3.73 MnT for same duration last year.

Country-wise Iron Ore Imports:

Brazil stood the largest exporter of iron ore to Bahrain in Aug’18 at 0.51 MnT, up 24% on monthly basis, contributing 57% share of total Bahrain iron ore imports. Canada stood second largest importer at 0.17 MnT, stable M-o-M.

Chile and Turkey imports recorded at 0.16 and 0.06 MnT respectively against being nil a months before.

Bahrain pellet export drops 22% M-o-M in Aug’18

Bahrain pellet exports in Aug’18 recorded at 0.63 MnT, down 22% M-o-M as against 0.81 MnT in July’18. On yearly basis, exports depicted fall of 16% as compared to 0.75 MnT in Aug’17.

Saudi Arabia stood the largest importer at 0.23 MnT (up 28% M-o-M) followed by UAE at 0.2 MnT (up by more than twice M-o-M).

For the duration, Jan-Aug’18, the exports witnessed at 4.34 MnT, down 13% on yearly basis as against 5 MnT for same duration last year.
