Bahrain Iron Ore Imports fall Sharply, Pellet Export Down 6% in Jun’18

Bahrain: Iron ore import drops 71% M-o-M in June’18

In June’18, the iron ore imports by the country reduced by 71% to 0.33 MnT as against 1.12 MnT a month ago. However, on yearly basis imports have reduced by 30% as against 0.47 MnT in June’17. As per reports, Anglo American suspended a contract to supply iron ore to Bahrain Steel as miner was facing troubles in its Brazilian project after spills from a pipeline that carries the commodity to port.

However, Bahrain has recorded increase in quarterly iron ore imports to 2.57 MnT in Q2 CY’18. The import increased to almost twice on quarterly basis as against 1.32 MnT in Q1 CY’18. On yearly basis also, the imports increased to twice as against 1.28 MnT in Q1 CY’17.

Country-wise Iron Ore Imports:

Brazil stood the largest exporter of iron ore to Bahrain in Q1 CY’18 at 2.27 MnT, up more than twice on quarterly basis, contributing 88% share of total Bahrain iron ore imports. The remaining 12% imports were contributed by Canada at 0.3 MnT.
Brazil stood the only importer of Bahrain iron ore for the month of June’18 at 0.33 MnT.

Bahrain exports down 6% M-o-M in June’18

Bahrain exports in June’18 recorded at 0.62 MnT, down 6% M-o-M as against 0.66 MnT in May’18. Oman stood the largest importer at 0.39 MnT (up 50% M-o-M). Bahrain exports to India stood nil in June’18 as against 0.09 MnT in the month of May’18.

The country exports recorded at 1.8 MnT in Q2 CY’18, up 64% Q-o-Q as against Q1 CY’18 exports at 1.1 MnT. However on yearly basis, exports recorded a decline of 9% as against Q2 CY’17 exports at 1.97 MnT.
