Trade statistics released from Australian Bureau of Statistics shows that world’s largest iron ore exporter, Australia exported around 68.74 MnT iron ore in Sept’16.
Iron ore exports have witnessed a downfall of 4% M-o-M as it was 71.56 MnT in Aug’16.However, Australian iron ore exports grew by 1% on Y-o-Y basis as it was 68.12 MnT in Sept’15.
During the first nine months of 2016, the country exported 595.9 MnT iron ore, up by 4.5% Y-o-Y as 570.1 MnT iron ore was exported from the country in the same period prior this year.
Australian Port Hedland exports around 70% of total Australian iron ore exports. In Sept’16, exports from the Port was registered at 41.8 MnT, down by 2.5% M-o-M and up by 5.74% Y-o-Y.
The non-agglomerated iron ore (lumps and fines) export in Sept’16 was registered at 68.5 MnT, down by 4% M-o-M and up by 1% Y-o-Y. On similar lines, the agglomerated ore (pellets and concentrates) export was registered at 0.23 MnT, up by 53% M-o-M. The nation exported 0.07 MnT agglomerated ore in Sept’15
- China imports around 80% of total Australian iron ore. In Sept’16, the country imported 57.1 MnT iron ore, down by 2% M-o-M. However, on Y-o-Y basis, country’s imports from Australia grew by 1% as it was 56.67 MnT in Sept’15.
- Japan, the second-largest iron ore imports have imported 5.55 MnT iron ore in Sept’16. Country’s imports from Australia moved down by 16% M-o-M. The nation imported 5.71 MnT iron ore in Sept’15.
- South Korea, the third-largest iron ore importer has imported 4.19 MnT iron ore in Sept’16, down by 14% M-o-M and up by 11% Y-o-Y.
- Taiwan, the fourth largest iron ore importer has imported 1.44 MnT iron ore in Sept’16, up by 11% M-o-M and 1% Y-o-Y.
