Australian coal exports likely to rise over 10%, m-o-m, in May

Australian coal exports in May’22 is expected to be around 28.9 mnt, up 11% from Apr, CoalMint estimates. In May last year exports were 29.5 mnt. The rise in exports m-o-m is mainly attributed to the rise in demand in Europe and Japan following sanctions on Russia. In the near term, Australian coal exports are expected to remain elevated with limited supply from South Africa on logistical constraints.
