Australian Coal Export Down 5.36% M-o-M in Apr’18

According to the vessel line-up data compiled by CoalMint Research, coal shipments exported from Australia have decreased 5.36% on a month-to-month basis to 28.64 MnT in Apr’18, against its previous month’s total of 30.26 MnT.

Notably, Australian coal exports to its major customer, Japan, had declined by 19.7% M-o-M from 9.90 MnT in Mar’18 to 7.95 MnT in Apr’18. Likewise supplies to India, South Korea and Taiwan had lessened during the month.

Contrarily, Chinese coal imports from Australia surged 28% M-o-M from 5.88 MnT in Mar’18 to 7.57 MnT in Apr’18.

India continued to be the third-largest coal importer from Australia in Apr’18, though imports fell by 35% M-o-M from 4.73 MnT in Mar’18 to 3.03 MnT in Apr’18.

Port-wise Coal Shipments:
Newcastle port had handled the highest coal shipments in Apr’18, followed by Gladstone, DBCT, Hay Point and Abbot Point.

Amongst the major ports, only Newcastle and Abbot Point had witnessed an increase in export volume during the month.
