Australia’s key coking coal miner South 32 has decided to withdraw its expansion plan of Dendrobium coking coal mine in Illawarra region of New South Wales (NSW). In 2020, the miner had asked for permission to extend the life of the Dendrobium mine to 2048. The withdrawal of the Dendrobium extension request comes after its former parent company BHP decided to pause all investments in its Queensland coking coal operations, citing higher royalties in that state.
