Australian miner Rio Tinto suspended operations at its SimFer port site, part of its Simandou iron ore project in Guinea, following the death of a contractor’s employee. An investigation is underway with partners and authorities. Simandou holds a world-class reserve of high-grade iron ore, estimated at approximately 1.5 billion tonnes. Rio Tinto, the majority shareholder, serves as the managing partner of Rio Tinto SimFer.
