Australia Iron Ore Exports Down 6% in Sept’19

Australia – world’s largest iron ore exporter has recorded a decline for iron ore shipment in Sep’19, according to the vessel line up data maintained with SteelMint. Australia’s iron ore export shipments recorded at 71.25 MnT in Sept’19, down 6% as compared to 75.51 MnT in Aug’19. China iron ore import from Australia also down by 5% in the month of Sept’19.

Amid sluggish Chinese demand and increased iron ore inventory at Chinese port resulted in lowered iron ore export from Australia. Stocks at major Chinese ports picked up in Sep’19 end to 129.95 MnT as against 125.25 MnT towards Aug’19 end.

For CY’19 (Jan-Sept), the total Australian iron ore exports recorded declined by about 12 MnT to 628.19 MnT as against 640.21MnT for the same period CY’18 (Jan-Sept’18).

Australian exports to China down 5% in Sept’19-: China marked the largest importer of Australian iron ore in Sept’19 at 59.15 MnT, down 5% as against 62.21 MnT inAug’19. Japan stood second-largest importer for the month at 5.3 MnT followed by Korea at 4.06 MnT.

Australian exports to India recorded nil for the sixth consecutive month.

Port Hedland iron ore exports increased 8% in Sept’19-: In Sept’19, Port Hedland exported 41.87 MnT, up 8% against 45.41 MnT in Aug’19, followed by Walcott at 17.18 MnT (Up 5% M-o-M) and Dampier at 10.88 MnT (down 14%).
