Australia: Iron Ore Export Up 1% in Nov’16

Trade statistics released from Australian Bureau of Statistics shows that world’s largest iron ore exporter, Australia exported around 70.11 MnT iron ore in Nov’16.

Iron ore exports have witnessed a growth of 1% M-o-M as it was 69.67 MnT in Nov’16. However, Australian iron ore exports grew by 9% on Y-o-Y basis as it was 64.55 MnT in Nov’15.

During the first 11 months of 2016, the country exported 735.6 MnT iron ore, up by 4.9% Y-o-Y as 700.79 MnT iron ore was exported from the country in the same period prior this year.Australia iron ore exports in Nov'16

Australian Port Hedland exports around 70% of total Australian iron ore exports. In Nov’16, exports from the Port was registered at 41.4 MnT, slightly down by 1% M-o-M and up by 11% Y-o-Y.

The non-agglomerated iron ore (lumps and fines) export in Nov’16 was registered at 69.96 MnT, up by 1% M-o-M and 9% Y-o-Y. On similar lines, the agglomerated ore (pellets and concentrates) export was registered at 0.16 MnT, up by 7% M-o-M.   1. China imports around 81% of total Australian iron ore. In Nov’16, the country imported 56.82 MnT iron ore,down by 4% M-o-M. However, on Y-o-Y basis, country’s imports from Australia dropped down by 5% as it was 54.03 MnT in Nov’15.
  2. Japan, the second-largest iron ore imports have imported 6.53 MnT iron ore in Nov’16. Country’s imports from Australia moved up by 29% M-o-M. The nation imported 5.41 MnT iron ore in Nov’15.
  3. South Korea, the third-largest iron ore importer has imported 4.57 MnT iron ore in Nov’16, up by 17% M-o-M and 16.8% Y-o-Y.
