Australia: Govt slows down closure of coal-based power plants

In a bid to ensure Australia’s energy security, the federal government has slowed down its plans to close coal-fired power plants. The government aims to build new power generation capacity, before replacing existing ones, as the closure date of several utilities neared. As per the proposal, utilities are now required to provide a five-year notice before closing a plant compared with the current 3.5 years.
