According to the Australian customs data, Coal export from the country has decreased 5% Y-o-Y to 32.3 MnT in Sep’17, compared with 34.07 MnT coal in Oct’16.
On the monthly basis, Australian coal exports had fell for the second successive month in Sep’17. Coal exports for the month witnessed minor drop of 1% M-o-M compared with the export of 32.58 MnT recorded in Aug’17.
Total Australian coal export in CY17 has reached 273.9 MnT during Jan’17-Sep’17, 5% lower than the exports of 286.32 MnT coal recorded during the same period in CY16.
Grade-wise Coal Exports:
Australia is the chief exporter of Both Coking and Non-Coking coal in the world. Non-Coking coal shipment from the country was 16.84 MnT in Sep’17, increasing 3% M-o-M.
While the remaining coal shipment of 15.47 MnT had belonged to Coking coal, exports of which fell 5% on the month.

Quantity in MnT
Major Coal Importers:
Japan remained the largest coal importer from Australia in Sep’17, followed by China, South Korea and India.
Japanese coal import fell 4% M-o-M to 10.26 MnT in Sep’17, which was also 11% lower on the year compared with 11.52 MnT coal in Sep’16.
China had received the second-largest monthly coal shipments from Australia. Chinese coal imports decreased 11% M-o-M to 6.5 MnT in Sep’17. On the yearly basis, Imports had increased 20% Y-o-Y compared with 5.41 MnT coal in Sep’16.
South Korea emerged as the third largest-coal receiver during the month, with total imports of 4.93 MnT. The country’s coal import had increased both on the monthly and the yearly basis in Sep’17.
