Australia, the largest coal exporter in the world, has reported a fall of 3% in monthly coal shipments during Nov’17, as per the customs data.
Coal exports from the country which had been falling on the monthly basis since Aug’17, reached a 7-month low of 29.42 MnT coal in Nov’17, which was 30.28 MnT in Oct’17. Exports had also decreased 9% Y-o-Y compared with 32.19 MnT in Nov’16.
Australian coal exports have totaled 333.60 MnT during Jan’17-Nov’17 period, 4% lower on the year compared with 349.04 MnT in Jan’16-Nov’16.
Grade-wise Coal Export:
Australian exports of both Coking and Non-coking coal had fallen during the month of Nov’17.
Non-coking coal shipments were down 4% M-o-M to 16.1 MnT in Nov’17, while Coking coal shipments had fell 2% on the month to 13.32 MnT.

Quantity in MnT
Major Coal Importers:
Japan remained the largest coal importer from Australia, despite recording fall of 3% in monthly coal imports. The country had received 9.53 MnT coal in Nov’17, which was slightly higher the imports of 9.47 MnT in Nov’16.
China, the second-largest coal importer, had witnessed a drop of 37% in monthly coal imports. Imports marked at 5.11 MnT in Nov’17, were also 34% lower on the year compared with 7.71 MnT in Nov’16.
South Korea posted a growth of 43% M-o-M in Nov’17, to receive its highest monthly coal imports of CY17. The country had received 4.94 MnT coal from Australia in Nov’17, which were also 46% higher on the yearly basis.
India, Taipei, Indonesia, Malaysia and Brazil were among the other major coal importers during the month.
