Australia’s coal exports have decreased by 7.23% on a month-on-month basis to 29.59 million metric tons (MnT) in February, as compared to 31.89 MnT in January last year, as per the latest vessel lineup customs data compiled by CoalMint Research.
However, on a year-on-year basis, the country’s coal exports rose by 12.14% than the shipment volume of 26.38 MnT in Feb’19.
Moreover, on a year-to-date basis, Australian coal export shipments have totaled 360.72 MnT in the first eleven months of the current fiscal year (Apr’19-Feb’20), up 2.31% against the total exports of 352.57 MnT recorded during the corresponding period of the previous fiscal year (Apr’18-Feb’19).

Major Coal Importers from Australia in Feb’20:
Japan surpassed China to become the largest receiver of Australian coal for the second consecutive month in Feb’20, followed by India and South Korea — generally these four nations together account for approximately three-fourths of Australia’s total coal shipments during any particular month.
Nevertheless, Japanese coal imports from Australia dropped by 10.45% to 8.29 MnT in Feb’20, against 9.26 MnT in Jan’20.
Chinese coal imports from Australia fell by 5.38% to 7.44 MnT in Feb’20, against 7.87 MnT in Jan’20.
Contrarily, Indian coal imports from Australia rose by 12.63% to 4.17 MnT in Feb’20, against 3.70 MnT in Jan’20.
South Korean coal imports from Australia decreased by 35.25% to 2.72 MnT in Feb’20, against 4.19 MnT in Jan’20.
Taiwanese coal imports from Australia also decreased by a whopping 38.89% to 1.76 MnT in Feb’20, against 2.89 MnT in Jan’20.
