Anthracite Coal Offers Up by USD 3-4/MT amid Sluggish Demand

Anthracite coal demand has remained sluggish in Indian market as end-user industries have preferred low cost alternate fuels like coke and other forms of coal.

Both the materials are sufficiently available in domestic as well as international market as replacement for the coal variant.

However, import offers have increased by USD 3-4/MT due to limited availability, according to a reputed importer. Import offers have thus moved upto USD 92-93/MT, CFR India, but Indian buyers will be immune to the increment due to inactive importing tendency.

As a consequence of weak importing tendency among buyers in the country, no import consignment had landed at any Indian port this month till the end of the 2nd week of Jan’16, according to SteelMint data.

Indian buyers have so far imported 439,700 MT of Anthracite coal during the current fiscal, SteelMint data shows. During the period, the highest consignment was recorded in Apr’15 at 100,250 MT; and the lowest consignment was 8,500 MT, imported in Oct’15.
