The Anthracite Coal import scenario in India has remained lackluster, mainly due to the absence of demand in the market. Indian buyers have preferred alternate fuels instead, resulting in the sluggish market for the coal.
It is due to the lackluster atmosphere, imports of the coal have remained significantly low. In Dec1’7, only 73,200 MT of the coal was imported in India. And the only importer was: Tata Steel.

On month-on-month basis, the imports during the month were down by around 29% over the imports in Nov’17. At the same time, the imports were up by around 201% against the imports of around 24,300 MT in Dec’16.
During 2017, around 1.3 MnT of Anthracite Coal was imported in India.
Referring to the pricing scenario, the international offers for Anthracite Coal has remained at high rates due to the higher Coking Coal prices. According to the latest assessment, international offers for the coal were at around USD 145/MT CFR India, unchanged from the week-ago rates.
