Anthracite Coal Import Dips to the Lowest in Dec’16; Import Offers Up

The Anthracite Coal market in India has remained sluggish, with almost no affinity for imports among the user-industries in the country. Unlike in India, demand for the coal has been strong in the key international regions.

The latest import offer for Anthracite Coal is assessed at around USD 118/MT CFR India, unchanged from that in the week last.

In an international round up, Anthracite Coal stocks at the thermal power plants in Ukraine was heard to have gone up to 891 ‘000MT.

Atrum Coal NL has recently entered into an agreement with the Atlantic carbon Group PLC to exclusively market the latter’s Anthracite Coal outside the US.

IMPORTS

As a consequence of prevalence of sluggish demand, there was almost no import affinity among Indian buyers. During Dec’16, import of Anthracite Coal was the lowest in FY17, at only 24,300 MT, which was imported by JSW Steel, from Russia.
