The 2020 production guidance for Kumba iron ore mine has been reduced to 37-39 MnT amid lockdown measures in South Africa (previously 41.5-42.5 MnT), subject to the extent of further COVID-19-related disruptions.
Anglo American Kumba iron ore production for Q1 CY20 stood at 9.4 MnT, stable as against 9.5 in Q1 CY19. On quarterly basis output fell 20% as compared to 11.8 MnT in Q4CY19. The production at Sishen iron ore mine increased to 6.6 MnT (up 2% as against Q1CY19 at 6.45 MnT). At, Kolomela output decreased 7% against Q1 CY19 to 2.9 MnT as unfavorable weather conditions resulted in safety-related stoppages and equipment reliability challenges.
Kumba iron ore exports up; domestic sales dropped in Q1 CY20
1. The Kumba iron ore exports in Q1 CY’20 recorded at 10.3 MnT as against 10.1 MnT in Q1CY19. On quarterly basis too, sales inched up compared to 10.2 MnT in Q4CY19.
2. The Kumba iron ore domestic sales dropped sharply to 0.4 MnT against 0.75 MnT in Q1 CY19.
Minas-Rio mine production picked up in Q1 CY20
Minas Rio mines, pellet production for the Q1CY20 witnessed at 6.4 MnT (wet MT basis) of high grade ore, up against 4.9 MnT in Q1 CY19 reflecting productivity initiatives that have driven robust operational stability and, in particular, processing performance.
On quarterly basis, output marked 4% increase compared to 6.16 MnT in Q4CY19.
Minas Rio pellet sales increased in Q1 CY20
Minas Rio pellet sales recorded at 6.08 MnT (wet MT basis) in Q1 CY20, up 51% as compared to 4.03 MnT in Q1 CY19. The pellet sales has dropped on quarterly basis compared to 6.57 MnT in Q4CY19. Minas Rio pellet production guidance for 2020 remains unchanged at 22-24 MnT subject to the extent of further COVID-19- related disruptions. The planned one-month production stoppage to carry out routine internal scanning of the pipeline, originally scheduled for Q2, has been postponed to the second half of the year.
