Indian steel ministry in an amendement in Steel & Steel Products (Quality Control) Second Order of Ministry of Steel states that BIS to imply on 12th Sep 2012 ,where as few products are given extension for 6 months..
According to BIS new guidelines, all manufacturers, foreign and domestic both, can not manufacture, import, store for sale or distribute steel and steel Products, which do not conform to the standards and which do not bear the standard mark (BIS or ISI Mark) on obtaining certification marks licence, the release said.
The implementation of Quality Control) Order will be a hurdle to imports of flat steel (which has grown significantly in last quarter, hurting domestic steel manufactures). What it says is that every importer/exporter company will have to register with BIS and pay 1% of the cost of imports towards inspection said industry experts.
