AM/NS India’s emissions intensity and reduction target for 2030

Integrated steel producer, AM/NS India, targets to reduce carbon emissions intensity in its operations by 20% by 2030, as per a recent climate action report published by the company and accessed by BigMint. The steelmaker aims to slash CO2 intensity of its steelmaking operations from 2.23 tCO2/tcs (tonne of carbon dioxide per tonne of crude steel) in 2021 to 1.8 tCO2/tcs by the end of this decade. A decarbonisation document was forthcoming, as AM/NS India is seeking to achieve steelmaking capacity of 8.5 million tonnes (mnt) by end-2024 by debottlenecking existing capacities, and is aiming to scale to 15 mnt in the near term. The existing gas-based DRI-EAF processes constitute about 2/3rd of total production.
