Alang: Ship Demolition Increase Sharply by 70% in CY16

Alang, ship breaking hits highest in last four years in CY16. Total 315 ships underwent demolition in CY16 compare with 186 ships in CY15.

December Month Overview:

Total 25 ships have arrived in Alang in December, which were 17 ships in the month of Nov’16 and 30 ships in Oct’16. As per Dec’16 Total 313,765 LDT had arrived, while the total tonnage in 2016 was 34,10,905 LDT in comparison to 2015 that is 17,61,520 LDT.

There are still 5 ships waiting for breaching for this month and 3 vessels are expected to arrive.

Alang Ship Breaking Price: Due to rising price of raw material and steel in domestic market the Ship breaking prices in Indian market increased by INR 3,600/MT M-o-M and currently hovering in the range of INR 19,300-23,600/MT.

The imported scrap offers in the month of December increased by USD 35/MT M-o-M. Also the billet prices have increased by INR 3,700/MT in west India during this month.

Global Ship Breaking Price Sentiments:

As per custom report, ship breaking trade in India declined by USD 10/MT (general cargo) & price are stable (Tanker) in week 2. However, Bangladesh remained stable (Tanker) in the last week.

In India, prices are assessed at USD 270/lt Ldt for general cargo and USD 300/lt Ldt for tanker.
