Coal imports by India, the world’s third-largest consumer of the fuel, rose 45 percent in December from a year ago, according to shipping data.
Adani Enterprises Ltd, Tata Group, JSW Group and Steel Authority of India Ltd. were among the importers who brought in 14.2 million metric tons of the fuel last month, up from 9.77 million in the same period a year ago, mentioned Bloomberg in one of its report.
The port of Mundra, operated by Adani Group, India’s biggest importer of the fuel, received the most coal at 2.52 million tons, according to shipping data. The eastern ports of Krishnapatnam, Visakhapatnam and Paradip received 1.28 million tons, 1.27 million tons and 1.1 million tons respectively, the data show. Dahej, on the western coast, took in 896,239 tons.
