India:  Electricity Price down by 50% of power exchange

The Demand of Electricity has slumped down due to heavy Rainfall and slow Industrial production. In July 2013, the requirement  of electricity has decreased as compared to last year on an average  in the states like Punjab, Rajasthan and Chhattisgarh .

Owing of low Demand in Aug 2013, the price of Indian Energy exchange(IEX) witnessed 50%  downtrend as compared to last year. According to Central Electricity Authority (CEA), in July 2013 the electricity demand of Punjab was  62980 lac unit, which was 66110 lac unit for July 2012.  Precisely in Chhattisgarh and Rajasthan demand is 42690 lac unit and 13280 lac unit continuously for July 2013. While  in the same month for 2012, its demand was 46380 lac unit for Rajasthan and 15860 lac unit for Chhattisgarh. During peak hour, demand in  Punjab was  77650 lac unit  in July 2012 which has decreased to 73060 lacunit  for July 2013.   

“Appreciating rainfall  has enormous impact on industrial production which directly affects the demand of electricity”, said  Mr Salil Garg, Director of Fitch group (energy and utility). As per Mr Garg monsoon might have impact on demand for short period but is likely to show greater impact on Industrial production
