Petcoke (Fuel Grade) imports in India were higher by around 20.39% in Aug’17 in comparison with that in July’17, an analysis on the import data compiled by CoalMint Research shows.
During Aug’17, around 1.24 MnT of Petcoke was imported in India; and that was up from the import of around 1.03 MnT in the previous month.
Prevalence of strong demand in the country was the factor behind the rising imports, despite the high international offers. The importers were mainly the cement producers, who had imported the fuel to cater to the strong consumption in their plants running at high rates.
On a year-on-year comparison, the imports during the month under review had fallen by around 28.74% over the imports of around 1.74 MnT in Aug’16.
A break-up of the countries of import shows that the imports from USA had increased on a month-on-month basis; while, the imports from Saudi Arabia decreased. Importers also procured from the other Middle Eastern countries, Oman and Kuwait, due to competitive offers in comparison with the offers from Saudi Arabia; that had led to the imports from Saudi Arabia declining against those in the preceding month.
