Anthracite Coal Imports in India Remain Insignificant, Offers Steady

Anthracite Coal imports continue to remain insignificant in India as there is almost no affinity among the users in the country to use the fuel. Instead, they prefer alternate fuels as a matter of practice.

During Aug’17, Anthracite Coal imports in India were at around 75,450 MT, which were up by 11.89% over the imports of 67,430 MT in July’17, an analysis of the import data compiled by CoalMint Research shows. Compared with the imports in Aug’16, the imports during Aug’17 were also higher by 62.26% against the imports in the same month of the preceding year, at 46,500 MT.

Only four importers had imported the coal in Aug’17. They were: KIOCL Limited, Rashmi Group, Jindal Stainless Steel, and Indian Metals and Ferro Alloys.

On the price movements, there was no change in the international Anthracite Coal offers over the offers in the week last.

The latest Anthracite Coal offer was assessed unchanged at around USD 135/MT CFR India over the week-ago offer. The global offers have recently gone up in response to the escalating Coking Coal prices in international markets.
