Coking Coal imports in India went up by around 12.6% in July’17 over the imports in Jun’17, an analysis on the import data collected by CoalMint Research shows.
In July’17, Coking Coal imports were at around 4.73 MnT, up from the imports of around 4.2 MnT in the previous month.
The month-on-month rise in the coal imports could be attributed to the rising prices of the coal that had prompted the country’s steel makers to increase their imports to escape higher cash outgo in view of the prospect of the coal prices to rise further.
A break-up of the origin-wise imports during the month shows that the imports from Australia had increased over the previous month, mainly due to the steel producers tending to stock the coal as the prices of the coal were rising constantly.
