India: Odisha to submit Field Verification Report to Shah Commission soon

Bhubaneswar:

The Odisha government will very soon submit the field verification report on 42 Iron ore and Manganese mines to the Justice M.B.Shah Commission. The mines are located in Keonjhar and Sundargarh district of the state. This report may become a part of the final report of the inquiry commission expected to be submitted in September or first week of October.

During the visit of the Shah panel from February 27th to March 4th this year, miners had raised questions over the credibility of the DGPS map and the panel had agreed for field verification of 42 mines. For this the panel has constituted 5 separate teams and in addition the state government has also constituted two separate committees headed by the collectors of Sundargarh and Keonjhar. Subsequently the teams had started the verification from 16th of March 2013.

The filed verification was carried out on the basis of the 10-point directive issued by the Shah commission to the department of mines. As per the directive, if the lease holder violated the original mining plan within the lease area it would be regarded as encroachment of mining area and the same would be identified in the map as encroachment.

On the other hand, director of mines Deepak Mohanty has said that the department of mines has prepared a fresh mining map on the basis of the outcome of the field verification.
